When Jeff Berkley, Jim McInnes and I started this Homegrown album idea, we had no idea we'd receive over 60 submissions. We gathered on Tuesday and listened to them all, making comments and notes, mostly looking for fully produced, well written songs about San Diego. A few hours later we had narrowed it down to 18 songs, but it wasn't easy. The songs that weren't selected can be heard here, check them out and then you'll see why we had such a hard time selecting. The original Homegrown album compilations had a dozen songs on them so we're sticking with that tradition. This summer we'll narrow this list of finalists down to 12 and release the compilation, on vinyl, at the end of the summer at a big concert to celebrate the Homegrown legacy. Wanna hear the winning songs? Stay tuned, I'll be playing them on The Listen Local Show in coming weeks. Congratulations Tara Alvarado and Alana Martins whose artwork was selected and a huge thank you to everyone who participated. This project is sponsored by Berkley Sound and Listen Local and wouldn't be cool without Jim McInnes. Thank you for your support, friends!
